24th December 2012 Monday ~ From the lofty heights of an automatic promotion place we can survey the chasing pack and one of those are Grumpy Nigel’s Foxes. They have experienced a dip in form/luck recently but remain a squad full of talented players who will be desperate to get back to winning ways and brush us aside.

In the last game against them we suffered three goals by David Nugent, an unsatisfactory game in which we never got going. So a lesson there, and unless we get momentum early on Leicester have the ability to strike and grind out a win. They have some excellent marksmen in the team and on their day they can devastate most defences. However if the Tigers get a win it will be Leicester’s third defeat in a row and a massive set back to Nigel’s plans. We are enjoying a winning run of four matches (best in this division) and have an in-form balanced team which should take the field almost unchanged from the Derby game (ie minus David Meyler).

Getting the first goal suits us fine; and I note that according to the BBC website we have a 100% record in league games in which we have scored first (winning all 10), and in those we have led at half-time (won all six). The Tigers have scored more first-half goals than any other club in the division (19).

This is by no means an ordinary season as these indicators really mean something and show that when this team plays to its best and takes control there is no-one in this league who can best them.

All set for a hum-dinger then and I hope a big crowd arrives with only the blue and white supporters going home disappointed. It will be ten years to the day when we played Hartlepool in the first league game at the KC and won 2-0, (Deane Keates 21 min, Stuart Green 75 min) the same score line would suit just fine.
