15th March 2016 Tuesday KC Stadium: A rejuvenated Forest side scored first from a wonderful Gardner goal on 28′ and then denied the home side until Sone Aluko got on the score sheet in the 73′.

But that was it for the Tigers – there is a spark missing and Steve Bruce and his squad need to find a way to get it back.

Somehow we have become used to ups and downs in performance of this talented set of players, and in a competitive league you cannot expect to get points from every game. But this current bad run may be one too many.

The facts are Brighton won tonight, they did what they had to do….we didn’t.

12th March 2016 KC Stadium Saturday: A lack-luster first half and and only a slightly improved second cost City points today and we find our selves in the middle of a bad patch at the wrong time of the season.

After hoping for a better second half and trying to forget the first, the Dons took the lead via Antony Kay with a sucker punch in the 51′. The centre half was unmarked by the home defence as the perfectly judged corner kick was firmly despatched past McGregor.

The lead didn’t last long though as Clucas struck back just two minutes later, which brought up the eventual final score. It came from a free kick on the edge of the box after Hernandez had been brought down. It was a really good curling ball swept in with his trusty left foot. The keeper hardly moved.

As expected Bruce did make changes to shake up a City lacking ideas – he brought off the frustrating Diamé (why was he played wide?) for Huddlestone on 78′ and Aluko for Hayden on 73’….but to no avail.

So City end the day still in playoff land (3rd) on 65 points and another chance is lost to put pressure on the top two; they have no win to show in the the last 5 matches…a mini crisis perhaps, but this is Hull City AFC so fans long in the tooth will wait for things to work themselves out.

Steve Bruce….

“We’re frustrated but we didn’t play anywhere near well enough in the first half. We’ve played better in the second half.

“First half we didn’t move the ball quick enough and gave the ball away in bad areas.

“At the end of the day I pick the team but I scratch my head and ask why we’ve played like that in the first half. We’ve got to take away the nerves and a little bit of edginess which may be creeping in.”

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo (Adama Diomande 88), Curtis Davies, Abel Hernandez, Sam Clucas, Mohamed Diamé (Tom Huddlestone 78), Chuba Akpom, Isaac Hayden (Sone Aluko 73), Michael Dawson, Andrew Robertson, Ahmed Elmohamady.
Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Alex Bruce, David Meyler, Harry Maguire.

MK Dons: David Martin (Cody Cropper 70), Dean Lewington, Kyle McFadzean, Anthony Kay, Darren Potter, Samir Carruthers, Daniel Powell (Jonathan Williams 83), Alex Revell, George Baldock, Josh Murphy, Rob Hall (Dean Bowditch 76). Bench Unused: Ben Reeves, Jordan Spence, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Nicky Maynard.

8th March 2016 Tuesday KC Stadium: This FA Cup replay was looking OK for City until a poorly conceived pass across his own 6 yard box by David Meyler to Jakupovic was pounced on by Oliver Giroud in the who gave the City keeper no chance in the 41′.

I am a big fan of David Meyler…but he does have lapses of judgement….and I wished him in hell when he made that “pass” across his own crowded goal.

A quick response may of changed things but it was slow attrition by the gunners who bagged three 2nd half goals via Giroud 71′, Walcott 77′, 88′.

Steve Bruce….

“I don’t think it’s a fair reflection. We’ve given away two awful goals.

“The one on the first half is one of those horrible ones and when you play against Arsenal – one of the top teams – or anybody for that matter then you cannot give goals away like that.”

Hull City: Eldin Jakupovic, Moses Odubajo (Andrew Robertson 81), Alex Bruce, Curtis Davies, David Meyler (Sone Aluko 58), Tom Huddlestone, Harry Maguire, Mohamed Diame, Nick Powell, Adama Diomandé (Ryan Taylor 88), Ahmed Elmohamady. Bench Unused: Dusan Kuciak, Abel Hernandez, Jake Livermore, Josh Tymon.
Arsenal: David Ospina, Kieran Gibbs, Per Mertesacker (Nacho Monreal 33), Gabriel (Aaron Ramsey 57, Jeff Reine-Adelaide 73)), Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Mathieu Flamini, Calum Chambers, Joel Campbell, Mohamed Elneny, Alex Iwobi. Bench Unused: Matt Macey, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Willock.

3rd March 2016 St. Andrew Thursday: The Blues got a little lucky with their 14′ goal, a deflected shot from on loan Jon Toral wrong-footing McGregor after Andy Robertson lost possession.

The referee didn’t have a good night and one glaring error was turning down a clear hand-ball in the Birmingham box by a home defender which normally would have resulted in a penalty.

Hull tried everything in the second half and created numerous chance with good approach play, but it was Birmingham’s night and Bruce’s boys  missed the opportunity of going back to the top of the Championship.

Bruce tried to change the game by bringing on Powell and Diomandé but it made little difference and it was a day for Blues fans to celebrate.

Tomasz Kuszczak had a good game and saved shots from Livermore Clucas and Snodgrass.

Steve Bruce…

“We created enough chances to win two games and we dominated the game really. We did everything but score, then we’ve lost to a deflected goal.

“When that went in, you’re already thinking it’s going to be one of those nights. These things happen at this time of year.

“But there’s still a lot of points to be played for and a lot of water to flow under the bridge yet. Birmingham have still got all the top sides to come here so I’m sure they’ll do us a favour.”

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo (Ahmed Elmohamady 75′), Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone (Nick Powell 59′), Abel Hernandez, Robert Snodgrass, Sam Clucas, Jake Livermore, Mohamed Diamé (Adama Diomandé 59′), Michael Dawson, Andrew Robertson.
Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Harry Maguire, Shaun Maloney, Isaac Hayden.

Birmingham City: Tomasz Kuszczak, Paul Caddis, Michael Morrison, Paul Robinson, Jonathan Grounds, Stephen Gleeson, Maikel Kieftenbeld, David Cotterill (David Davis 75), Jon Toral, Jacques Maghoma, Clayton Donaldson. Bench Unused: Adam Legzdins, Diego Fabbrini, Viv Solomon-Otabor, Jonathan Spector, Will Buckley, Ryan Shotton.
