28th December 2015 : Hull City cannot shake off the habit of waiting to see what happens when playing away rather than making it happen.

Once again they became best friends with struggling teams instead of putting them to the sword.

Not many Tigers came out of this game with much credit, Meyler was swapped for the slow moving Huddlestone in the latter part, and towards the end the team showed a bit more urgency. Best to write this game off and pray the real Tigers show up soon.

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, David Meyler (Tom Huddlestone 46), Robert Snodgrass, Sam Clucas, Harry Maguire, Jake Livermore, Shaun Maloney (Mohamed Diame 71), Chuba Akpom (Abel Hernandez 63), Andrew Robertson, Ahmed Elmohamady. Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Ryan Taylor, Isaac Hayden, Adama Diomande.

26th December 2015 Saturday KC Stadium – A back to form Tigers saw off bogey team Burnley in style with second half goals from Livermore 57′ Hernandez 66′ and the hardworking Clucas 90′.

Burnley never got a real foothold in this game and the Tigers won the midfield battle, looked more solid at the back and had teeth near goal.

Good to see Jake Livermore on the score sheet again after a magnificent strike which gave the keeper no chance after dissecting the crowded penalty area.

Hernandez worked space to place a great ball behind the keeper , a real class goal.

City are 3rd in the table tonight on 44 points. Middlesbrough are 2nd on 46 with a game in hand.

Mark Clattenburg must have left his cards at home.

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo, Curtis Davies, David Meyler, Abel Hernandez (Robert Snodgrass 84), Sam Clucas, Harry Maguire, Jake Livermore (Isaac Hayden 89), Mohamed Diame (Tom Huddlestone 83), Andrew Robertson, Ahmed Elmohamady. Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Shaun Maloney, Chuba Akpom, Adama Diomande.

19th December 2015 New York Stadium – A penalty from Frecklington 28′ and a second half strike from Newell 57’was enough to see off a below sorts City team who need to find some form against their next up Boxing day opponents Burnley if they are to remain serious top 4 contenders.

Rotherham are having a bad season so far but this win could well turn their season around.

Bruce must have been fuming after his men failed to show any consistency after home wins against Bolton and Reading.

16th December 2015 Wednesday KC Stadium: After an uninspiring first half which saw them trail 0-1 to a better performing Royals outfit, the Tigers simply had to play better in the second, and they did.

Hernandez looks to have picked up where he left off after injury and was always a threat, missing a header though that should have been put away. His close range reaction time is near perfect.

Things nearly happened for City on a number of occasions, but somehow never worked out.

Reading though, scored a really well worked goal – the defence could not pin the ball carriers down as two back-heels (from Vydra and Norwood) saw the ball whipped across very quickly to the left for Blackman to strike from eleven yards.

No fancy goals from City though, it was ping pong in the penalty box for both goals. First Hernandez in the 62′ and finally captain Livermore in the 90′.

After pulling level Steve Bruce swapped Clucas for Maloney and Akpom for Snodgrass and they both got involved in getting that winning goal by  Jake Livermore.

Akpom threw a tantrum when he was substituted and Mike Phelan had to tell him how to behave.

Reading had to finish with 10 men but they would not give up and pressed the home team well after the disappointment of losing the lead and then going behind. But City also attacked and in the 7′ of added time it was end to end stuff again.

In the 96′ Meyler could have made it 3-1 when he was put through but as he was closed down could only hit a tame shot at the keepers feet.

Hull City fully deserved to win this game though, no matter how scrappy the goals were; the stats show they outplayed the visitors in all meaningful statistics.

City are still 4th tonight but have opened up a 5 point gap between themselves and 5th placed Burnley.

The Tigers are away to next to bottom Rotherham on Saturday at 3pm.

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo, Curtis Davies, David Meyler, Abel Hernandez (Adama Diomande 83), Sam Clucas (Shaun Maloney 77), Harry Maguire, Jake Livermore, Chuba Akpom (Robert Snodgrass 77), Andrew Robertson, Ahmed Elmohamady.
Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Tom Huddlestone, Mohamed Diamé, Isaac Hayden.
Reading: Jonathan Bond, Chris Gunter, Andrew Taylor (Alex Fernandez 51), Paul McShane, Oliver Norwood, Matej Vydra, Michael Hector, Garath McCleary (Hal Robson-Kanu 75), Anton Ferdinand (Jake Cooper 65), Nick Blackman, Daniel Williams.Bench Unused: Ali Al-Habsi, Lucas Piazon, Stephen Quinn, Niall Keown.

12th December 2015 : This was a poor display against the worst team in the league…good job it was Bolton and not anyone else.

Luckily the sides around us in the league all failed to get maximum points.

It was not easy to pick which side had a winding up order hanging over them and yet another chance to ponder why this seemingly talented City squad can conjure up such dour performances.

It seems you only have to be without two or three players and the others are rudderless.

Albeit they had been without their ‘spine’ of Dawson, Meyler and Hernandez for a few of games and that sort of thing can unbalance the others…..it’s happened before at our club.

Chuba Akpom got himself on the score sheet again and about time.

We really do hope that Michael Dawson is not badly injured and can make a speedy return after leaving the pitch in the 85′. His team mates got the jitters even more when he walked off.

The Tigers are back to 3rd in the Championship 2 points behind Middlesbrough and 4 behind Brighton.

Conditions were poor to play attractive football….but not impossible when players put their mind too it, it felt like some had already decided it was a game they could let pass.

Please, please start playing like we know you can boys!

It was Mike Phelan who faced the microphones and commented…

“Games are a bit of a slog sometimes in the Championship but we’re glad we’ve come through it and got three points.

“The ideal is to have a great performance and get three points. They made it more difficult without creating a lot of chances apart from they have hit the post.”

Hull City: Allan McGregor, Moses Odubajo, Curtis Davies, David Meyler, Sam Clucas, Jake Livermore, Mohamed Diamé (Robert Snodgrass 66), Chuba Akpom (Adama Diomande 77), Michael Dawson (Harry Maguire 84), Andrew Robertson, Ahmed Elmohamady. Bench Unused: Eldin Jakupovic, Tom Huddlestone, Shaun Maloney, Isaac Hayden.
Bolton: Ben Amos, Prince Desir Gouano, Dean Moxey, Josh Vela (Stephen Dobbie 72), Liam Feeney, Mark Davies, Neil Danns, Darren Pratley (Jay Spearing 46), Shola Ameobi (Emile Heskey 69), David Wheater, Robert Holding. Bench Unused: Paul Rachubka, Derik Osede, Filip Twardzik, Tom Walker.
